May the Force Be With You..
It’s national Star Wars day and COVID-19 continues to delay the start of our beach season. On the bright side the weather has been incredible!
The press release from the Town of Wrightsville Beach this past Friday reiterated the fact that we’re not quite in the clear yet. Access to the beach is still limited to exercise and water related activities and the public parking lots are still closed until at least this coming Friday, May 8th. We’ll be waiting to hear how the town plans to proceed starting Saturday.
Phase 1 of Governor Coopers plan to reopen the state will be starting shortly, which will allow some businesses to open back up, while still requiring efforts to socially distance from others, gatherings of no more than 10 people, and those who may be most at risk continue to quarantine.
Our neighbors to the North, Surf City, relaxed restrictions on beach access this past weekend, but still closed parking lots hoping that would limit visitors. Unfortunately, that measure did not work. The mayor of Surf City was quoted in an article from WECT saying this past weekend was a “mess.” This is not the best of news, as I’m sure officials from nearby beaches were paying close attention to Surf City.
We’re anxiously waiting to see how leaders will proceed past this Friday. As much as we want the beach back open so we can begin our season, we would much prefer people stay healthy, even if that means a little more time at home. We’ll do our best to keep you updated, once we hear from the Town. Until then, please stay safe and healthy and may the force be with you..
